WHAT IS ROOT IN AN ANDROID PHONE?
Wondering what is root after seeing it on web when searched for Hacks or Customization.
So basically root is the permission to access the inner folders(you may call them system folders) of an android phone. This gives them(the app which wants it) the permission to view and edit those files.
Rooting an android phone modifies its stock rom(its default operating system) and changes it to custom(you can see this in the end of your About phone => Status and also in downloading mode in samsung phone). This new rom now gives access to system folders to app which wants it.
This process of converting a stock rom to custom rom which allows app to view and edit system folders is known as Rooting.
WHAT IS A SUPERUSER APP?
An app which allows other app to access the root of a devices is known as super user. There is no use of a rooted devices without a super user app(except of warranty void). This app also asks us to grant an app the root permissions, for how much time to grant and all other features. The best superuser app is SuperSU.
SOME IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT ROOTING
WARRANTY WILL BE VOID AFTER ROOTING A DEVICE!!!!!
Once you root a device its warranty will be void.It is void even if you uninstall the super user app or click on the full unroot option in the app.A device will be unrooted only when you flash the stock rom in it.If you go to the authorized store for repairing your device for any reason , they will tell you to change the mother board for doing any repair(which may be costly) so I prefer you to repair your device from an android expert or an unauthorized store.
YOU MAY LOOSE YOUR DATA WHILE ROOTING!!!!!!!!!!
There are 50-60 per cent of chances of loosing your data so i prefer to backup it in your PC,memory card or cloud before you root your device.I have rooted many devices but I never lost any of my file but I say prevention is better than care.
YOU MAY NEED TO BOOT IN RECOVERY MODE TO ROOT
Booting a device in recovery mode(Or may be factory mode where hard reset can be performed , this mode is also used when your phone reboots while updating) may or may not be a difficult task. Its very easy to boot into recovery in samsung and most of common android phone(using the combination if volume up or may be volume down whith power key when the phone is switched off) but can be difficult in sony xperia phones. You will find several options in recovery mode like :
- Apply update from external sd card
- Apply update from cache
- Wipe data factory reset
- Reboot
- etc.
